I love that readers get to fall in love with the Mojave Desert along with Minerva Hoyt, and the beauty and solace that she finds there.

Learning about Minerva was totally new to me, her determination to showcase the beauty of the desert and protect the land she loved was so admirable!

Jenn Ely’s illustrations are fun and vibrant, and there’s more great information about Minerva Hoyt, Joshua Tree National Park, and tips for environmental activists in the back matter.

Lori Alexander’s author note is moving and I appreciated the personal connections and concerns about the realities of climate change, vandalism, and urban development on Joshua trees.

I loved this read! The Joshua Tree National Park is a favorite for many hikers. It is also full of amazing plants. For those who enjoy the desert, this is a great place to visit. However, the story of how this park came to be was not known to me. I loved this read, and learning more about Minerva Hoyt.

Perfect for young readers and nature lovers alike! I will definitely be recommending this book out to families.
