I think I’d have enjoyed this that little bit more had I read rather than listened to it.

This is a topic I am very interested in, but this book just failed to capture my attention. I never felt compelled to pick it up again and eventually, it just slipped between the cracks. Great topic, great scientific knowledge, but unfortunately the author failed to make it exciting on the page. Just my personal preference - that does not mean this is not a great book.

A fascinating read, for anyone with an interest in history or anthropology. Dr Alice Roberts uses her voice and humour to take you through the ancient burials from how they were uncovered, to how the individuals buried may have been placed there.

Ancestors: A History of Britain in Seven Burials by Alice Roberts is an interesting book that considers how age old archaeological sites and new, advance genetic techniques have rewritten the unwritten past. Alice considers some of the most famous burials in this island nation, which was once joined to Europe, and reviews the evidence associated with them in a narrative which is engaging and informative. It did lose its way a little towards the end, however this did not detract for me from the overall book.
