I like this series. I do. But the FMC makes me want to scream sometimes. When no leas than three people tell you someone is a dangerous, scheming liar, believe them, girl! When your boyfriend betrays your trust more than one time, throw the whole man away, girl! When people who've been playing the game for 50 years instead of 5 minutes give you advice, listen to them, girl!
The book itself and the series so far is kind of standard for the genre. The magic system just got more interesting with the introduction of info at the end of the book, so I'll withold opining on that. MMC hasn't shown himself to be more than a standard issue Shadow Daddy (complimentary) which is what you sign up for in romantasy so no complaints there.
Writing wise, I think there are some great passages but also some clunky bits. The use of "swear/swears" instead of "curse/curses" bugged me. "I said a swear" should be coming from a 5yo, not our 20yo heroine.
Two books in, my op nion is if you came to this series because of its comparison to the Grishaverse, you'll be disappointed. There's nowhere near the depth of writing nor the diversity of viewpoints. If you're coming from ACOTAR, I think this will hit most of the right notes. If you're just a sucker for romantasy, read on and enjoy the ride.

I enjoyed this book’s expansion of the world and myth building from the first novel. For the most part, I loved the new characters that we were introduced to, especially Taran and Eleanor. There were some additions I did not like (for example: Ileana was cartoonishly evil and not interesting as a “villain” at all. She was merely annoying). I did find myself at times to be very frustrated with Diem’s poor decision-making, but the other characters made continuing the book worthwhile.

Wow. I couldn’t put this one down. Book 1 was fine. Book 2 was excellent.  The author’s growth is obvious and the characters were so well developed. I stayed up way too late and read between lunch break and watching my kids after dinner, all to keep turning the page.

I enjoyed this book a little bit more than the first book. I felt it was easier to follow but that's probably because the world building is heavily done in the first book. The characters definitely felt more 3-dimensional.

I'm giving this book a half star more than the previous book because the first book felt more predictable but the twist at the end of this book was unexpected for me. It did make sense to add and made the story seem more interesting.

Predictable but I love it 👨‍🦯🙈💁‍♀️
I get not wanting to let go of someone but jesus fucking christ, how many times does Henri have to be a piece of shit?
Also Luther betraying her would definitely make the series more interesting but I'm glad he didn't.
The incest twins was a,,,, unique touch
The ending was not a surprise at all. The moment Henri mentioned the leader of the Guardians in the first book I assumed it was Lorelai considering she was both gone AND one of few characters we had met at that point that would cause an appropriate amount of shock value. Henri needs to be murdered. Preferably by Diem. Amen.

Glad I didn’t DNF

I was very close to not finishing this book. I thought the first book was decent but the first 60% of this book was a complete and total drag. I feel like a good hundred to 200 pages could’ve been removed. The end of the book make up for it though. I’ll probably read the next one.

Brilliant sequel and couldn’t wait to find out where this next instalment was going to take us. I liked that several elements of the story sere unexpected / didn’t follow typical tropes we usually see. That being said, the romance subplot felt a little too drawn out in this one - I understood why but I think it could have been revealed a little quicker. Overall the tension and the pining was so good, the emotions were everywhere with this book! Enjoyed the mix of politics and battle and character development among the romance. I felt Diem was a little more annoying in this book but I couldn’t really blame her. Luther and all the side characters were brilliant though. So well written and some twists at the end I didn’t see coming!!
