i cannot read the words of this depressed diva during Summer.
slow-paced

I knew it wasn't going to be an exciting read, it's a diary. It's also hard to rate because it's a diary. It was going to be repetitive and slow. With that set aside, I sometimes found this irritating, how she wrote, that is. I did think her thoughts about her writing were interesting, but that's how interesting it got.

Okay. I'm not okay - I have been reading Woolf's diary for most of 2019. Found a beautiful 1st edition at the local library this spring and it hasn't left me since then: I've been everywhere with it, on the train, tube, in the park, on the beach; it travelled with me to several countries this summer - everywhere I went, always reading little passages, little phrases. Virginia Woolf has accompanied me throughout the year - and I'm so grateful - everything she wrote part of me now. I've started journaling again, started noticing the little things again. Woolf is so important to me - such a brillant, sweet, caring soul - and I love her so much. I am leaving this book feeling heartbroken (we know how this ends), empty (how do I go on, alone?) & yet so happy.

Quote from the last pages : «Your true life, like mine, is in ideas.»

«I begin to dislike introspection : sleep and slackness; musing; reading; cooking; cycling: oh and a good hard rather rocky book […] This is my prescription.»
