What a fun and intriguing ending to this amazing series! After an interesting (and, admittedly, a bit rocky) start, the last two installments of The Raven Cycle have been nothing short of incredible and intriguing. I truly did not expect to become so attached to these characters, but here I am, feeling reluctant to let go of them.

As I've said throughout the course of this series, I can't even begin to tell you the details of the paranormal stuff/magic system in this book. At first, I found the constant confusion and feelings of not being able to keep up a bit annoying. But after a while, I just started to settle in for the ride and the vibes, which made reading this series so much more enjoyable. Did I fully understand the ending of this particular book (and therefore the series)? Nope. Was I disappointed by that? Maybe a little (thus the four star rating). But it was so artfully written that I didn't seem to care all that much. In fact, I was still just as absorbed in the story as before.

The characters, as always, stole the show. Again, I grew unexpectedly attached to this little group of pals, particularly over the course of the last two books. But I particularly loved seeing their arcs come full circle, and how each of them came into their own as the story came to a close. It was beautiful and heart-warming and had me smiling from ear-to-ear.

Overall, The Raven Cycle is such a special series. It's kind of hard to explain what I mean by that, so all I can really say is read these books if you haven't all ready. I don't think you'll regret it.

I finished this book crying. Over the last 2 months trc were my comfort books and I'm so sad that I've finished them now. The books are really extraordinary, the hype and high rating more than deserved!! They are beautifully written and the characters, I just love them. Also Ronan as a gay character without it being a stereotype when the books are from 2012 - 2016??? Wowowo. I have to admit that some plotlines abruptly ended without a satisfying explanation
e.g. piper?? how is it that glendower is dead?? what about gansey, what is it that cabbeswater had to make "different" about him so he can live again??
and that's the reason I'm rating it 4,5 instead of 5 stars. All in all it was really gut wrenching and heart warming and I'm so glad that I've finally read them! They really have a special place in my heart from now on!

Update: I recently discovered Maggie Stiefvaters past racist and problematic comments and also learned about the racist joke(s) in this book, e.g.:

“Principles? Henry Cheng’s principles are all about getting larger font in the school newsletter,” Ronan said. He did a vaguely offensive version of Henry’s voice: “Serif? Sans serif? More bold, less italics.”

Blue saw Adam both smirk and turn his face away in a hurry so that Gansey wouldn’t see, but it was too late.

“Et tu, Brute?” Gansey asked Adam. “Disappointing.”

“I didn’t say anything,” Adam replied.

Adam made puerile jokes at Henry’s expense (He’s half Chinese? “Which half?”) and sniggered clannishly; Blue called them on it (“Jealous, much?”): Gansey told them to put aside their preconceptions and think about him.

Because of my point of view as a white reader I didn't saw them when I first read the books, but I want to acknowledge them now and encourage you to inform yourself about these issues, even if trc is one of your favorites.

I noticed more with this book than the other ones that the pacing isn't bad but there's definitely way more packed into this book than there is in the previous books. I wasn't bored at all in the last books but now you see how much much went into the resolutions so it's all crammed into this book.

And I think because there's so much crammed into this book you sort of lose a bit of clarity, it's not confusing exactly but I had to go back to sections multiple times because if you don't have all of your attention on the book you very quickly lose track of what's going on.  Also there are certain things that just aren't explained very well, you're just expected to go along with it after a brief description instead of actually discussing the thing that happened so so the magic system gets a little bit muddled. And as I write this I realize that there are a couple of things that just aren't resolved.  They're not things that really change your understanding of the book but they bother me a little bit

This book shows a lot less of the friendship and found family trope than the first two which is a large part of why I've continued the series so thats, why I'm only giving 4.25 stars. If we had just continued to have those explicitly affectionate moments in this book, it would've been a 5 star for me.  Again my favorite character is Noah and Noah doesn't get enough good, happy scenes 😭.  I get why the author made his plot line the way she did and it does make sense in the context of the story but it hurts my soul so deeply.

I listened to the whole series on audiobook and it took me a while to get used to him so I wonder if rereading it will change my mind about the rating?
