I read this as an allegory. It’s beautiful regardless.

WOW, what a stunning book! I read this one in Dutch and I loved every bit of it! Meet the best friend of our MC, instead of hair he has branches, flowers, and leaves on his head. We see them being chased by bees, enjoy the flowers, and more! It was so lovely. But what happens when fall happens? I just wanted to give the boy a big big hug. And I absolutely loved the solution of his friend, our MC. That was just the sweetest and I loved how it motivated the others around them.
BIG BIG Recommendation! Such a gorgeous book! Lovely art!

This book made me tear up. The illustrations are soft and sketchy which is perfect for the setting. What I love most is how the story/illustrations beautifully depict a child going through a rough time and how support from a friend can help them bloom again (when they’re ready.)

A story of support and friendship.
The children are from diverse backgrounds, and there is also one in a wheelchair.

I loved this touching story about a boy named David who began losing the flowers in his hair. His best friend comes to the rescue and finds a way to help him and make him feel whole again. This is such a sweet way to address a difficult topic with younger children. Told in a beautiful, kind, yet simplistic way that a child can understand, this moving story addresses friendship, illness and being there for one another. 5/5 I love all of Jarvis' books so far!

Want a book that will make you cry? This one will!

I don't really see books that handle a child going through chemotherapy. At least that is how I interpreted this text. Oh man, seeing how the friends rallied around......there is good in the world <3
