Obviously I enjoyed this book when I was young, I read all the books one summer, but the writing and story is very much for kids and I just wasn’t interested. I recently got a little bit into HP YouTube (potion making, subscription boxes, etc) but the magic of that is not reflected in the actual book, at least to me. I think it is actually better conveyed in the film. This reread made realize - again - that the success of HP has been because of its marketability and merchandising - which is inherent in the premise - rather than the story itself. I think I will look up which one people think is by far the best, probably HBP, and try to reread that one. Harry is just a NOTHING protagonist, and I cannot look at this series with fresh eyes anymore, people have given too many suggestions that would have seriously improved the quality of this story over the years.

finally i read this book. after years and years of putting it off and getting out of the way of the hype i’ve finally read it and i was hooked from the first page. this story really took me places and has definitely taken me out of a reading slump (not that i was in one per se) but now im so excited for more. an absolutely wonderful tale honestly, truly.
