Despite the author being an absolute troglodyte, the book is fantastic. I’m glad I returned to it as an adult.

Rereading Harry Potter in my adult life and its original language is such a beautiful and nostalgic experience.(I read HP in Turkish when I was in high school. English is my second language) I wanted to reread HP because really wanna read more Dramione so I wanted to refresh my memory of original story and the world!

Omg don’t get me wrong I love this series but damn this book was treacherous and very slow pacing. It was a struggle to pick up and read it. I guess every long series need to be built up from ground therefore it takes more slow pace

This is my first time re-reading the series as an adult!

The Philosopher’s Stone is so nostalgic!! I feel like I must have watched the movie over 10 times at this point. Really enjoyed this even though the story is so familiar, it totally has that cosy feeling for me 🥰

This gets a star taken off though, simply because I know the series only gets better as the books get longer, characters develop and the story gets more dark/intense.

Some random thoughts:
  • The audiobook narration from Stephen Fry is unreal!
  • The trio are all very one note in this first book, especially Hermione. Of course this is probably the most “children’s book” of them all so it does make sense that things are kept relatively simple.
  • The first chapter hits different after reading All The Young Dudes (IYKYK) 🥲 Marauders 4eva
  • I never remembered how much of a big drinker Hargid was, legend 🍻
  • It made me so sad to think of poor Harry living with the evil Dursleys. He should have been taken away by social services ffs.
  • When you start to consider any of the finer details, the worldbuilding completely falls apart. Eg If you were a witch/wizard from scotland you would have to travel all the way to London to get the Hogwarts Express even tho it goes into the Scottish Highlands????? This journey would also take roughly 11 hours so I assume the train is magically fast as well…
  • Fuck Snape for having beef with a first year

love this book.

This book is just great. And quite nostalgic of my childhood. You can never go wrong with Harry Potter. Love

My first reread since middle school! I’m shocked by how many direct quotes were pulled from the books to the movie, and it’s so impressive how simple and straightforward, yet captivating the world of Harry Potter is. <3
