I love all the themes and tropes this book brought up! It was definitely a Midwest love story! I also really loved how it covered topics of emotional and physical abuse and the process of healing through that.
If you're a fan of big city gal meets small town guy, age gap, goofy pets, (sort of) forbidden romance, then definitely check this one out.
I'm so glad I did and it has taken the top spot for my favorite contemporary romance.
Moderate: Police brutality, Physical abuse, Sexual content, Emotional abuse, Violence, Toxic relationship, Medical content, and Toxic friendship

Alexis Montgomery, of *the* Montgomerys, is having a bad day when she meets Daniel at the VFW in a closed for the off-season tourist town. After a bet, a grilled cheese sandwich, meeting a baby goat, and a very out of character one-night stand, she returns to her life as an ER doctor, fighting with her parents over why she's not doing more with her life and why she's not getting back together with her abusive ex. The least lovable character in the novel is her father, followed up closely by her mother, and then her abusive ex. That's how awful her father is.
There's no way that she can bring Daniel into her world - their worlds aren't compatible. And it was just a one-night stand, right? When does it go from one-night stand to FWB to love? What do you do when you realize that you're falling in love with someone who can never, ever, be part of your world?
