Bit of a slow start for me. Everyone (and there are a lot of characters) is full of secrets, and there are constant hints, with reveals dragging a little to come out. The weaving together of all the characters was strong and convincingly done, but there were some people I just didn't care about. All that teenage drama for example ? Not sure it gave anything to the story. The main character kind of fell flat to me too, she didn't feel as interesting as her sisters, and even though she's the catalyst for the events unfolding, I didn't bond with her as such. The concept here was fun though, the snowballing mess of one split second mistake, with a palpable feeling of panic throughout. The writing was good too, with no loose ends, and the story wrapped up effectively. Not my favourite from the author, but 3.5 rounded up to 4.

Imagine sending a message meant for your sisters… but accidentally blasting it to your entire neighbourhood instead. That’s exactly what happens in It Should Have Been You by Andrea Mara — and what follows is absolute chaos.
What starts as a relatable, everyday mistake quickly spirals into a dark, fast-paced thriller. A woman is murdered. The only clue? She lived at the same address… just in a different part of town. Suddenly, this isn’t just gossip gone wrong — it’s life or death.
I loved how the story unraveled through multiple perspectives. You’re constantly questioning everyone. Each chapter reveals just enough to keep you guessing — and second-guessing — right until the final twist.
What really stood out for me was how tightly woven the characters are. You feel like you’re living in this community, tangled in their secrets. And the way social media is portrayed? Spot on. One wrong message sends shockwaves no one can control.
This book isn’t just about solving one mystery. It’s layers of lies, misdirection, and truth hiding in plain sight. Just when you think you’ve figured it out, the story flips again.
If you’re into domestic thrillers that keep you up way past bedtime, It Should Have Been You is a must-read. And yes — I’ll definitely be double-checking my group chats from now on.
While not the start I was expecting, the prologue absolutely hooks you in. The punchy chapters and multiple (emphasis on the multiple) POV means you are constantly trying to piece everything together. Everything is so expertly and intricately connected and I was impressed at how it all worked. There are a few loose ends that the reader is left to piece together so do be paying attention when you read this.
