This book loses 1/2 a point for being so incredibly depressing. It ends on slight hopeful note, but it was published in 2007. Now it is 2022 and the United States has pulled out of Afghanistan and the Taliban has taken over again.

I didn’t particularly like the writing (although it was beautiful) and the story itself, which was very hard to read. The characters were so lovable and it was really sad to read every hard and terrible thing they suffered. It’s a book that I’ll probably remember forever, even if it’s not the most fun or beautiful book I’ve read, because it made me think and it affected me so much.
