The book was amazing and I enjoyed reading it. Throughout the novel, I was at the edge of my seat. It was full of secrets and I couldn't seem to focus on anything else.

I've always wanted to learn about wine, seems like this is the perfect book to learn about it. Though there were not many scenes involving them, I enjoyed it. And the scenario in the basement made me feel uneasy. I couldn't help but think of Conjuring's basement.

I had lot of fun reading Heather's diary. I loved her character and stubbornness. The war was brutal and I felt a tremble run through my body. I despised her stepmother. She was a cruel person.

His aunt's cooking must've been the worst food she had ever tasted and the way children gave all mushrooms to her was hilarious. I didn't expect Jean to help her though.

The reunion of Jean-Luc and Kate was the only thing that disappointed me. It was sudden and unexpected. They were barely together for a few moments and I didn't feel the connection.

Really fun read. I enjoyed the jumps between present and WW2. Also good piece to help reflect on the sins of your ancestors.

Would almost give it a 5 star rating. Wasn't expecting the heaviness of the WWII Nazi occupied France but I should have. Loved how the two stories intertwined.

24 hour reading marathon. I was led to this book after learning about the Wild Purge after a clip in the miniseries Band of Brothers. Ann Mah does a wonderful job of weaving in history, secrets, wine culture, and the still looming presence of Nazi occupation generations later. Beautifully done.

“The wine sleeps in the bottle, but still it is changing—evolving,” Jean-Luc had told us. “And when the cork is removed, it breathes again, and comes awake. Like a fairy tale. Un conte de fées.”

It was...cute. hard to get involved with the characters, and they tended to ramble about random things that never came about. It was tough to tell the difference between the past and present in the audio as the transition wasn't clear.

I found the book very slow to start. I really enjoyed the journal entries and kept wishing for those parts to come sooner. I found the present day parts to be too drawn out. I would have rather focused more on the history of Helene.
