was really hoping this would be good but it just wasn’t. everything was underdeveloped and the characters lacked depth. they had nothing beyond single motivations. the romance was not interesting at all either!! i felt nothing for them. on top of it all the ending felt so… empty. thankfully this book wasn’t too long to read or i might’ve dnf’d it.

Reading "The Red Palace" feels like watching a historical K-drama with suspense that builds up all the way to the end. The author does an excellent job of maintaining a steady pace, keeping the plot moving without dragging.

Hyeon, as an illegitimate daughter who has worked hard to become a palace nurse, shines through with her determination to win her father's approval. Eojin, as the male lead and a key figure in the investigation, would have benefited from more character development beyond his role as an inspector. Learning more about him would have made his partnership with Hyeon even more compelling.

The suspense is well-crafted, with twists and turns that keep you guessing. The romance between Hyeon and Eojin is light, complementing the main plot without overshadowing it.

However, I wish there had been more showing rather than telling, especially during the climax and the fight scenes. A more descriptive approach could have heightened the tension and made these moments more impactful. Additionally, Madam Mun's storyline felt incomplete. Her motives were not fully explored, and her character growth was left hanging, which was disappointing given the build-up.
