I enjoyed this and am interested in reading more from this author. The plotline and romance development was a bit simplistic, but this novel's audience was YA so that's okay. I liked how elements of Korean culture/language were introduced and integrated easily. For a story that wanted to highlight Prince Sado, I'm surprised he wasn't featured more.

What a fantastic read!! I’ve been waiting for this one for months, and to finally hold her was such a joy. But reading her story? Even more so. The murder mystery is gripping and rapid, appropriately dark for the times and the horrors we know from Prince Sado’s time as Crown Prince but he remains shrouded in mystery (which, after reading the author’s note, I understand and respect why). Instead, Baek-Hyeon, our intrepid narrator Hyeon, guides us on her own journey for Justice for the mentor who raised her which entangles her in uncovering not only palace intrigues, and a daring young police inspector equally bent on Justice, but her own self. She comes to respect her own heart and ambitions more, and watching Hyeon’s curiosity and desperation blossom into intellect and determination is so extraordinary. In many ways, Hyeon was already there. This experience, and the trust she and Eojin place in each other to undertake the responsibility of honest investigation, gives her what she needs to fully step into all the potential she’s already cultivated. I also love that even in a short and fast novel, the side characters are given such descriptive moments that their motives and personalities feel alive and relatable.
