This book is STUNNING. A Kdrama in book form. Perfection! I screamed more times than was probably healthy reading this, and the plot twists guys. THE PLOT TWISTS. I am----June is the master of atmospheric writing and stories with deep characters that you can both relate to and scream about. 5/5 stars and I am so glad I was able to read an early arc.

A historical mystery with a romance the equivalent of the Mr Darcy hand flex. more please I’m starving

This was giving ALL the historical k-drama vibes and I was so here for it. It also reminded me of The Apothecary Diaries anime!

It was a well-paced story with just the right amount of plot, mystery, family drama and young romance.

I’m really looking forward to the author’s new release next month :)

i do love when i am right in my suspicion that i will enjoy a book.

i loved all of this, frankly. i don't know exactly why i am not rating this five stars, so if i change my mind: pretend i didn't. i loved the writing, most of all, and the characters, and i did love how the mystery was written. i couldn't put it down. all i wanted was to keep reading and find out what had happened. and i loved the progression of the characters so very much.

i am not well-versed in korean history, i will say, and i barely read what this book was about beyond the summary (and even now, i see i missed some parts of the summery, so excited i was to read this book. i had a hunch ok. i saw it recommended everywhere a while back and added it, and since forgot what was shared about it, beyond just remembering that i thought i would like it), so i didn't know this was based on a true historical figure, so i cannot say how well that was done. for what's worth, i very much enjoyed what i read.

overall, a really positive experience, i am absolutely adding this author to those to keep reading, frankly.
