With so much against them, love almost didn't have a chance

Keeping secrets is an understatement when it comes to Felix and Ebony! These had more twists and turns/ups and downs than I one could imagine. That spark that both felt for each other couldn't be denied no matter what they tried to do and avoid. I almost thought that things wouldn't work out. These Essien men are something else!

Would give negative stars. I returned a free book. Enough said. Not a library loan. Zero dollar purchase on Amazon and I still returned it.

KEEPING SECRETS, the first book in the Essien Trilogy, is an enthralling romance with a bit of suspense. As the book opens, Felix Essien is coming out of a coma and he has no memory of marrying Ebony, who has been by his side since his car accident. Not knowing this marriage is a business arrangement, Felix falls hard for Ebony and they break all the rules lined out in their contract. Ebony is in ecstasy but fears the consequences once his memory is fully restored.

An enjoyable read, KEEPING SECRETS, Taye expertly combines sexual tension/romance and mystery. The ending could have been tidied up more because it did leave too many unanswered questions even for a series. I look forward to discovering more of Felix and Ebony's story as well as the other Essien brothers.

The Pluses: interesting dual timeline device, lavish atmosphere, an unusual setting for romances.

The Minuses: gratuitous sex scenes, rushed pacing, some issues with editing

The Bottom Line: not as plot-heavy as advertised, but a decent bodice ripper

The story line was cliche and dragged at some point. It was a good read as the writing was flawless.

Contemporary romance is not for me and I had issues with the behavior of Felix regardless of the excuse given. This was a quick read. I love that it was set in Lagos and helped to dispense some of the false views about Africa. But this was bland for me, was expecting more of struggle with the characters. The essence is hinted but could have been fleshed out better.

There is mild swearing but sexual content is high.

Okay read

I wanted to like this book and the characters but the writing was very stilted and overly descriptive. Maybe with a little more experience and polish the writer will get there. The characters were flat and dull and there was no spark.
