A good "walk a mile in my shoes" story.

After meeting Stephanie in her first book, Maid, it was nice to learn more of her story. She is a hardworking, determined woman who fought to move past abuse and living below the poverty line. Her story can serve as an inspiration to those struggling, and for those more privileged, perhaps as a bridge towards understanding these struggles.

A masterpiece.

Land is a good writer, and this is fine storytelling but a lot of us struggled a lot more with this story than her last. I am one of them. This is a real-life story, and this is the story she wanted to tell. A lot of us would have rather she tell it differently, but I can see why she didn't.

Loved Stephanie's first book.

This one is well written although at times felt like an extended footnote to Maid.

People like to judge people's life choices and how 'they'd do it better' or point out all the wrongs she must have done to be in the position she was. The book maybe by accident--brings out one's own prejudice and judgement towards those on the brink. I have to admit I rolled my eyes a bit when she became pregnant again but would I have done so if she had money or wasn't on food stamps? Makes you think which is a sign of a good writer.

I DID want a bit more from the book thus the 3 stars but looking forward to seeing what she writes next.
