I love this book. It helped me understand a very important perspective. I think she writes in a brilliant way, and this is a book that many people in our society should read.

I want all of my higher ed colleagues to read this book.

Libby audio, read by the author. She acknowledges #hardCORE in her ending! So funny. I checked the group and sure enough, she is there and has posted a bunch!

Stephanie Land’s uniquely bold voice, which we all grew to know and love in “Maid,” shines through in her second memoir. Reading her words always fills me with awe, sadness, righteous indignation, and incredible respect for the single moms who are struggling just to get food on the table for their babies. I will never forget reading about how difficult it is for single moms in poverty to receive government assistance in America. Land’s writing sometimes lacks polish, and I feel her editors could have saved her from some of the issues I saw: some repeated information (nothing that detracted from her story, but just enough instances to be confusing), clunky sentence structure, and an occasional loss of focus within a paragraph or chapter. Overall, I found “Class” to be brave, truthful, and, something I love about nonfiction and particularly memoir, to demand that readers see and understand Land in this particular season of her life.

Wow! So heartbreaking but such a good look into poverty and the struggle of escaping a system that’s built to be inescapable.

I think the parts I hated most about this book were also the most relatable.
