Immortal Beloved by Kate Tiernan is about people who are born immortal and can only die if they have their heads separated from their bodies. Immortals also are born with magick, but one has to study and learn how to use it.
We follow Nastasya, who is over 400 years old and wasting her life partying and doing reckless things that get regular humans I trouble. One night she sees something that shakes her to the core, so she runs away and ends up in what is essentially Rehab for Immortals in rural Massachusetts.
I loved some of the secondary characters and I hope we learn more about them in book two, especially Reyn (who I'm picturing as Chris Hemsworth).
I enjoyed learning the magick system used and the journey of learning Nastasya's past and how it connects with her enemies to lovers interest. I also really liked the focus on mindfulness and being in the now. There is a lot of advice about this throughout the book as a way to deal with past traumas.
This was a quick, lightish read with informal narration that made it feel as though Nastasya was telling you the story herself., I'm interested to see what she does with her new found power and her continued character growth.
