Heartbreaking story beautifully written; the author's sensitivity is in stark contrast to the darkness of the girls' world. Absolutely brilliant!

Oh, this book is so sad! I was sobbing by the end.

I gave it 4 stars simply because Gi survived in the end and she has a happy ending. She and cho finally are away from prostitution life. I couldn't say the same about Il Sun. However, i felt the writing should be elaborated more like What happened to their orphan mistress, Jasmine and what happened to Gi actually in the prison camp. Yes, she has been abused but who is the perpetrator and why is he abusing her somehow behind unanswered. Gi doesn't really felt that she has been brainwashed regarding the superiority of north Korea, their leaders etc. and that part left me frustrated. She considered it just things she did not understand. Overall, it was sad knowing Il Sun died and how Gianni , Mr Choy , Mrs cha goes on with their life without punishment. It's unfair but that's life anyway.

The beginning of this book was slow, but then I couldn't put it down. I nearly stopped reading it though due to some very graphic details and scenes. However I'm glad I finished it! An incredibly compelling story.

Five stars because it is a don't miss read. (If you can get through the fact that it deserves a *trigger* warning for graphic sexual abuse and sex trafficking.)
I waffled a bit on rating though. The end was rushed. The beginning was a bit too flowery prose. I am also not sure Gi's sexual attraction to Il-Sun needed to be included to make us understand Gi and Il-sun's relationship.

3 and 1/2 stars. About 3/4 of the way through, this book kind of fell apart for me. The ending was a bit of a reach. But otherwise, a good read. Definitely hard to put down in parts.

This is in many ways a hard book to read because of what happens to the women in the story. It is however important to realize how much some women go through. It is very graphic in some scenes as the author seeks to help you understand the true tragedy of what the women went through.

This book is haunting. Be warned-there are a few graphic scenes, but they expose the terrible world of trafficking. I ache for the characters, and for the fact that these things are happening right now. This book exposes the horrible reality of sex slavery and will not leave you the same. The story wraps up abruptly and left me wanting more information about the characters, but overall the story was thorough and well written.
