I received this book for free from Publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
Brewer’s latest book is so different from his past works - but it's just as good (with so many good quotes to boot). The Blood Between Us delves into topics that many of us have dealt with or are currently dealing with - identity and self-discovery, while also dealing with adoption and a sibling rivalry.

I enjoyed this quite a bit. I would have preferred if the book was a bit longer, especially the ending felt a bit rushed. But I rushed through this book because I just wanted to know things.

Growing up, Adrien never felt like the adopted son. He had two loving parents that were successful scientists, he went to a boarding school and received a great education, and he never felt as if he was in need for anything. The only real problem was his sister, Grace. Adrien always felt that Grace hated him and after a freak accident kills both his parents, the rift between brother and sister grows into a chasm.

Adrien cannot seem to shake that something is off about the situation; his parents were brilliant and very cautious with their field work. How could they have accidentally caused an explosion? It is only after four years have passed that Adrien really starts to dissect exactly what happened to his parents and a lot of the signs point to his sister Grace.

Brewer has tried to craft a cliff-hanger mystery with The Blood Between Us, but overall this novel falls flat. The main issue is the fact that readers are kept at an arms length distance for most of the story. The suspense never feels authentic, the situations Adrien finds himself seem trivial and unfocused, and story line overall will leave readers wanting more. While the premise is promising, it will not have lasting power in most library collections.

This book really had it’s moments. At times I was inches away from bawling my eyes out and other times I just wanted the chapter to end. However the ending was surprising and made the book end in a really good way.

Overall the book was nice, and I would most likely read it again.

A very weak ending that really doesn't satisfy. They had such an opportunity to give a great plot twist - could've easily been Josh or Victor or anyone and instead we got this? Disappointing.

Fast read. Crazy little twist at the end.
