Rebecca Serle’s book read to me like a J Crew story. Out of all the other authors, she mentions brands and real restaurants and places the most to the point where I do wonder if she’s getting sponsored by these brands. But her books are always about a rich white girl that deals with magical situations. I do like her writing style and read this bc Julia Whelan did the audio. The main character being Jewish felt a little too on the nose and almost preachy,  the quote about the mother saying she preferred if her partner was Jewish: “ you don’t want to be a stranger in your home” felt off putting. But I did love the overall thematic of the promise. If you knew how long you were going to be with  someone with that dictate how you lived. This was my second Serle book and despite some of the annoyance it kept me hooked and happy. The ending is totally predictable, but I did get emotional at the declarations of love.

I liked this book for what it was. It wasn’t some deep, riveting read but it was cute. It was a page turner and had some level of suspense (I use that term VERY loosely). Daphne was someone you rooted for, but also was very frustrating. Why lie??? Like just be honest to the people you care about.

Interesting idea but pretty boring tbh! I felt like the development of the characters and their relationships was sorely lacking, and at no point was I particularly invested in any of them. Also dying for more context on the “peculiarly uniform views on Israel bit” as I cannot find anything about the author’s own stance here.
