Several times I was ready to give up on this book because it's so mystic and new-age... then it'd wallop me with some mind-blowing insight that made it all worthwhile.

A meditative book. The author takes well-known verses from the New Testament Gospels and also The Gospel of Thomas and explains the multiple meanings of the Aramaic words contained in them. He then shows one or more alternate meanings that might come in translation along side the King James version. I found this very helpful. He also gives a few meditations, some of which I tried which opened up some awareness for me. The book is not light reading, but well worth the effort just to pick up even a little of what he says. At least now I understand how important the Peshitta is. I had thought it was a rather current translation from the Greek to Aramaic, but it is either a very early translation from Greek and may even be that the Greek translation was made from original Aramaic. The order doesn't matter to me, but the fact that it is very early and has been used down through the centuries is meaningful.
