The immense wisdom to be found within these pages is balanced by humor and humility; Tara Brach is the sort of teacher whose pedagogy is rooted in authenticity. There's nothing preachy or condescending about these lessons, no sense of being coerced towards anything disingenuous. Her books (and her podcast) make me feel grounded and whole, no matter where I'm at in the moment.

this little book came home with me from @theivybookshop on my solo road-trip and i finally read it, and really liked it! brach comes from a Buddhist background (aka different than me! 🙌🏼) and i found so many of her thoughts striking, poignant, and beautiful. the writing style here is so lovely!

ps— read books by people who believe different things than you!!!

Tara Brach is right at the top of my list of people whom I can never read enough. I've listened to her classes for years, I've read all of her books and I've learned something new each time. I'm reminded of things I'd learned and forgotten already and things that I know I need to hear again and again. She never ever disappoints and I cannot recommend this book enough. It's a distillation of a lot of her stories, thoughts, encouragements, and lessons. As always, it's told in her gentle style and it's gold.

I really enjoy Tara Brach's podcast. She always has important lessons told in a down-to-earth way that feels accessible. I also enjoy all the stories and anecdotes that she puts into her talks.
So I was expecting to have a similar experience reading the book. The book is divided into many small lessons each of which is 1-4 pages long. I don't know if it was not having hearing her voice, but some of the lessons seemed saccharine and trite without her authentic presence.
The book was pleasant to read, but I didn't get the inspiration that I expected from it.
