“Dreaming of You” is an abstract, dynamic collection of poetry and verses revolving around the author and her love for the talented Latina singer, Selena.

I feel like this book is an acquired taste. I saw many negative reviews, but I thought it was brilliant. The first reason I grabbed the book at a local bookstore was due to it being on a good sale, but I loved Selena’s music growing up, and the movie starring Jennifer Lopez (who I thought was actually Selena—the only good acting she’s ever done sorry not sorry).

Back to the book, certain lines will either completely turn you off from reading or make you not want to put the book down (I was the latter). If you don’t like reading anything that is sexually related, this book is not for you.

However, the way that Oliva writes about self-identity is moving. Also, The two endings Oliva wrote were some of the best pieces; I mean, wow!

Some of my other favorite poems she wrote were the two poems next to each other that you could read in different ways. That takes skill; that takes craftsmanship.

This book will send you places while making you feel at home.

A book that has to be read over and over to understand all the thoughts that you have while reading… left feeling all of the things

There were some great lines in this, but it took me 40 days to read. I just bought the authors newest novel and I’m looking forward to reading a full length prose book by her.
