Loved the characters, Angel was literally the definition of her nickname, Sweet(s) and Phee was just *chef’s kiss* I always love a good Sapphic story especially with black women buuut this was very insta-lovey, which isn’t bad but it made the rest of the book feel like it was dragging with moments that felt redundant/unnecessary. The time jumps were also a bit weird; one minute they’re having a first date then the next chapter they’re together. It’s a bit of an adjustment when trying to get into the story but then a month has gone by so we don’t see our characters progress together. I like that there wasn’t too much drama and the spice was good. Definitely a slice of life, cozy type of book that the author describes.

Very sweet romance and instant love but love Phee and Angel, alone and together for characters.

DID NOT FINISH: 58%

I truly wanted to finish this book (because 🌈), but the pacing was a nightmare. And why the fuck did it just fast forward to them being together for a MONTH?! Like where's my diet doctor kelp?? Why didn't you show the cutesy, early relationship stuff? This probably should have been a little erotica fluff novella, and just've left that "conflict" alone.

Yikes. This plot had a lot of potential but fell so flat. The dialogue was super corny. And the characters back stories were not followed through on in a way that made sense. There was one major obstacle the couple had to overcome and it played out so quickly I got annoyed. Probably won’t circle back to this author unfortunately

Ok so this was sweet-nasty and I was here for it! Baby the lip syncing was top tier. This was one of the sexiest sapphic romances I’ve read. It had some really cute moments. But I found the pace to be slow not the romance or smex but the story itself, the writing. For me too much of it felt like filler, both because I found it worst and at times redundant. It just took real effort on my part to stick with it, now luckily I was always rewarded for my diligence but I almost tapped out a time or three. But let’s take a moment to appreciate the concept of a small majority queer town and the kismet nature of their connection,
although tragic, cause baby all the feels. I will definitely still be getting into more of Alexander’s work.

Phee and Angel have a special in my heart! This small town sapphic romance is a perfect summer read that I couldn't get enough of! Aricka did a great job with description, word choice, and banter! And the spiciness!? Devoured! Aricka wrote it perfectly and I loved how she wrote their intimacy in way that goes outside the lines of the usual masc-presenting and femme. *chef’s kiss* I can’t wait to read more of her work!

“Where There’s Smoke” - by : Aricka Alexander

Watching Phee and Angel falling in love was almost like a fairytale.
I love a lesbian romance that upholds love in the light as the “average” romance book.
It brings  in grief , tragedy , love , family , and spice into this mind blowing combination of words. No third act break up , no unrealistic turn that throws you out of the element while you’re reading.
I actually found myself crying because I can see these characters and everything they went through in real life. This is what joining an authors world looks , sounds , and feels like.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - 5 star read !
🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ - 5 star spice level !
