I hated the prose, I hated the audiobook narrator, I hated how glamourized the first 3 chapters I got through were. This was a sales pitch for drugs (at least up to this point) super annoying.

It was an interesting read. I picked this book up from Salvos not expecting it to be about a prostitution. The first few sentence hooked me and I was drawn into the world of a drug addict that became a prostitute for cash.

What really killed it for me was my frustration and anger. There were so many times that I wanted to just throw the book across the room out of frustration of how she had to go back into rehab over and over again, only to end up taking drugs once again after she was released, the disappointment that she brought to everyone around her, and how she seemed proud at men wanting her body to satisfy their own needs. In the end, I just gave up at about a hundred pages or so.

This was a lot.

The author is a very
vain person, and I wasn’t expecting that. I hate that she had to go through all this, but I’m glad she’s better.

This is a biography of a women who from age 24 to 30ish was horribly addicted to heroin. The book chronicles her life to the pit of hell and back again. Not for the morally pious as this women sustained herself as a prostitute and thief so you have to be willing to take the plunge with her to the less savory side of life. Book takes place in Melbourne Australia but I have to tell you the urban feel could easily have been New York or any major metro. I was moved by the steadfastness her family maintained during her repeated falls from grace. A true testimony to tough love that I hope none of us have to experience. I actually enjoyed this book but I am not sure everyone could. It would almost be easier to read if you thought it was fiction!
