Not even sure where to start with this one. I absolutely devoured it the first time I read it when I was 12 and it was the same 10 years later. I love how Malorie Blackman manages to write a book for a younger audience that doesn't feel childish and still very much holds up to an adult.

Absolutely one of my favourite books, the beginning can be a little slow but once I get to the good part I can't put it down until its finished.

I had to see what this series was all about, decades later but it remains a popular series and one beloved by many. This world of noughts (white people) and crosses (black people) was in some ways not dissimilar to our society but with harsher penalties and restrictions at times. This soceital structure was nothing we haven't seen played out in our world's past or currently...all reversed.

All that taken into account, this made for a compelling tale. These two young people, different sides of the tracks, different colour skin did not see their differences, until they did. Their friendship was sometimes beautiful, sometimes ugly and ultimately harmful.

I did not see that end coming, it hurt and it shocked but I can see why people are drawn to this series. I will read on.

**I wince calling this 'dystopian' when it's only an exaggerated reversal of our current society. Please check out some black reviewers.**
