This book's plot line was so reflective of our society today and really easily makes you stop and think. Are the characters loveable- its complicated because the main characters, Callum and Sephy, are so deeply in love and trapped in their own world that they collectively are the only thing you can focus on which personally didnt want me to love one or the other but leave them without a specific favourite and no bias as i read.  however, the characters had only one personality and the plot was predictable.

This book blew me away. The change between Sapphy and Callum's narratives created an incredible contrast between Sapphy's (still very real, but) mundane and trivial problems and Callum's systemic oppression and life-or-death situations. The concept of changing the power dynamic in the system so that people of colour are better than white people makes it seem absolutely ludicrous and ridiculous - because, of course, it is. It is genuinely a great way of explaining exactly what's wrong in our system and with racism, colonialism, and slavery. Blackman manages to get these points across incredibly clear while still having an engaging narrative. This book genuinely just keeps on giving - every time I thought I'd figured out and that the book would end, there was so much more, and it was all so good. Blackman's writing is beautiful, and the narrators of this audiobook truly put everything they had into it and it was an absolute treat to listen to. If you know me, you know I do not do well with audiobooks, but I absolutely devoured this in two days and there was nothing else I wanted to do than hear what happened to Sapphy and Callum. My only qualm, and the reason it's been docked half a star, is the uncomfortable age gap between Sapphy and Callum in the beginning. It was simply uncomfortable for me to read about a 13 year old and a 16 year old
