Notes for seminar:
- honestly the best book i have read for the course
- to reverse the real-life race treatment, we are shown how absurd prejudice really is. From having brown plasters to schools not being equal for all, to noughts being hung for crimes they did not commit, you cannot tell yourself that this is fiction because it is happening now.
- Blackman also perfectly balances a light-hearted humour with nail-biting scenes in various parts of the novel
'D'you ever wonder what it would be like if our positions were reversed?' I ask.
[...] 'I used to think about it a lot,' I sigh. 'Dreams of living in a world with no more discrimination, no more prejudice, a fair police force, an equal justice system, equality of education, equality of life, a level playing field...'
- we know that this is not how the situation plays in real life, that supposed superiority from any group leads only to inequality and prejudice.

This book's plot line was so reflective of our society today and really easily makes you stop and think. Are the characters loveable- its complicated because the main characters, Callum and Sephy, are so deeply in love and trapped in their own world that they collectively are the only thing you can focus on which personally didnt want me to love one or the other but leave them without a specific favourite and no bias as i read.  however, the characters had only one personality and the plot was predictable.

This is a great book. It’s definitely a page Turner. Huge plot twists and a heartbreaking ending that you would not expect. Recommend reading the rest of the series definitely a lot more things happen. One of my favourite books

I read the audiobook to this and it was super engaging. I really loved the character-development in this novel and I absolutely loved Malorie Blackman's writing style. This novel is so important, drawing parallels to today's society, demonstrating no matter how much progress we think has been made, there is still a long way to go.
