I'm not sure if I'm just too old for YA, but this just did not work for me at all. Best described as awkward and flat. A quick read, considering the length, but not really worth the time or the effort. The concept is interesting and I thought I'd at least vaguely enjoy this, but I mostly just finished it because I don't like to leave books half-read.

I really like the concept, and I certainly understand the significance and importance of a story like this, but this writing style is just not working. It comes across as very juvenile; the dialogue is clunky and lacking any nuance; the emotions displayed by the characters are typical (I guess?) in that they oscillate pretty quickly. Considering I'm now quite far from that age, it just isn't as fun to read that viewpoint. Nothing really inspired me to keep reading. I've also accidentally spoiled some of the future books and it sounds like the series just gets sadder and sadder.
