This is the author from which, while entertaining myself with some fantastic writting, I have learned the most about real historical stuff while doing it.
I love the way the story is told, were the father is telling his story to her daughter, from his origins as a farmer to bow he becomes a well renowned warrior in a story of vengeance and renown.

After finishing book 6 of this series, I have to say that it is very likely the best series I've read.
excellent historical fiction - nicely absorbing and despite the narrator bugging me a bit to start with I came to greatly enjoy him too. Perfect holiday read for me, swept me up but never got the heart pounding quite enough to merit a five star rating. Having read his fantasy, The Red Knight, the setting was understandably far better here and the scope broad and assured, but the combat and battle scenes never hit the heights of Red Knight. Still, this is a more satisfactory book overall and highly recommended.
