the case of the stolen diamonds

a fun lil case

my only issue was, I wasn't sure where to place it bcos of some conflicting info

it had the stair sex that was alluded to in bk17 + summerset's was still on vacay, which sets it either just before or during bk17, but peabody already made detective here and that means it's after bk17, which also means summerset's should be back + the stair fun doesn't add up either, so I am confusion, but besides that it was a fun one

wow how much her latest books in this series (num. 50+) are better than this one. such a contrast. eve there is more idk down to earth? less fidgety? more sure in herself? also peabody is more mature and confident now.

nevertheless, i liked it but i again skipped extra povs that weren’t from main characters.

“I think, maybe, McNab and I could afford something like that. Once we're in the new apartment, it'd be worth it to have somebody sterilize the place three or four times a year. We can get pretty messy when we're both pumping it on the job—and you know, doing each other."
"Shut up. Just shut up. You're trying to make me twitch.”

“She wanted to get married, be a professional mother." Trueheart flushed as all eyes turned to him. "I talked to the sister about her. It, um, I think you can learn about the killer if you know the victim."
"He's my pride and joy," Baxter said with a big grin.”

“Be careful with my cop."
Peabody sighed as she slid into the car. "I just love the way he says that. 'My cop.'" She scooted around to face McNab. "You never call me that."
"It doesn't work when you're a cop, too."
"Yeah, and you don't have the accent anyway. But you're cute." She pursed her lips at him.
"And you're my absolutely female She-body."
"Stop it, stop it, stop it! The neurons in my head are popping.”

“When you see his face come on screen, all sexy and gorgeous with that, you know, mouth, do you ever just want to pant like a dog?"
"Jesus, Peabody."
"Just wondering.”

“I would give you five hundred credits for a slice of pepperoni pizza."
He sneered. "Please, Lieutenant. I can't be bought."
"I will give you the sexual favor of your choice at the next possible opportunity."
"Done.”

“He closed the door, then, cupping his hands under her elbows, lifted her to the toes of her boots and took her mouth in a short and heated kiss.
"Jeez!" She dropped back to the flat of her feet with a thud. "What is wrong with you?"
"Had to get that out of my system. Something about watching you take command just gets me started.”

Interesting case of heist and family with a true villain and sympathetic victims. Not much in the way of development for Roarke of Eve as it was added to the timeline later, but a little on Peabody as she settles into her new role.

This was a good book but wasn't as great as some of the other novellas. This one was a little too long for me to be a novella. It started to feel like a full length, but then it was almost like she remembered, oh wait, this is supposed to be a novella, so she quickly wrapped it up.

Basically, this is solving a 50-year-old cold case. Peabody is trying to figure out how she wants to dress now that she is a detective. Summerset is now on another vacation at a rehab place because he's struggling a little still. I'm loving that Baxter and Trueheart are now seemingly part of the main group.

Eve always gets so weirded out with Peabody and McNabb and them showing affection for one another. I know she always says it's because they are cops, but I realized in this book, I think it's because she and Feeney act the same way. And Feeney is like a dad to her, so it only makes sense that she would feel the same way. Roarke quoted it best in the book:

“Weren't they a pair? Roarke thought, two veteran cops who've waded through blood and madness. But put a bit of sex on the table between them, and they're as fidgety as virgins at an orgy.”

Still one of my favorite series out there!
