The twist at the end is shocking but I think it would be better if it's position was at the beginning, where the main character started of by researching his own family first and then goes to innsmouth. nevertheless, this is definitely a creepy story and has a bit of a cozy and definitely scary feel to it that I like. The description is amazing and it reminded me of Victorian horror. this is definitely one of HP Lovecraft's more understand ble works for me because I definitely had more trouble understanding Chtuhlu and Mountains of Madness. I do like the story.

Only the 4th story of Lovecraft's I've read, this one finally made it obvious to me why he is universally acclaimed. It has all the now standard elements of modern horror, wrapped up and delivered in a beautifully satisfying package.

Overall, it's a nice book. It's different. It's creepy and it's from a different time. Having that said, I don't see this book sticking with me or being something I ever think about again. I don't really have any complaints, just meh
