Would give it a zero if I could. Genuinely might be one of the worst things I've ever read.

“Just… Please. Stay.”

Not My Match is a delicious opposites-attract story about an aspiring scientist and a professional football player with equal parts humor and depth.

Wide receiver Devon Walsh can’t explain why, but he’s fascinated by buttoned up grad student Giselle Riley. It’s too bad she’s off limits. However, when Giselle finds herself in need of temporary housing, he can’t help but offer her one of his extra rooms. And when sparks inevitably start to fly? Devon discovers that sometimes you can’t fight fate.

The second interconnected standalone in Ilsa Madden-Mills’s Game Changers series, Not My Match delivers a healthy amount of chemistry and humor. At first glance, it appears that Devon and Giselle have nothing in common, but as their true selves are revealed, you see how perfect they are for each other.

Devon is surprisingly sensitive and kind. I wouldn’t go so far to say that he is a cinnamon roll hero, but he definitely skates the line between CR and alpha in the most delightful way. And seeing Giselle come into her own power and to use her agency to pursue her dreams is inspiring to read.

“You are the best person in all my universes.”

One theme that is consistent throughout Madden-Mills’s work is the idea of fate. She cleverly weaves a feeling of connection between her protagonists, leaving the reader enraptured and wholly invested in the outcome of their story. The fact that there are some beautifully crafted love scenes? An added bonus to an already rich narrative. Though fate is definitely a factor, it is the characters’ works that make the novel complete. This novel cleverly explores the idea of what it means to love someone, and whether or not that love is enough.

This is an excellent novel to start the new year off on a high note. I already anticipate it making my top reads list of 2021.

A sincere thanks to NetGalley, Montlake, and the author for providing me with this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

This was the first book I read in this series. I did not read the first book. However, this did not keep me from understanding the story. I thought Giselle was an interesting character. I loved her quirkiness. Devon was a charmer. I loved how he took care of Giselle and didn't try to change who she was. A supporting cast of quirky characters was awesome.

3 Star.......

Remember Elena from the first book who was always pushed into the corner by her family, including her sister Giselle, and whose boyfriend was stolen away from her by Giselle, well this is Giselle's story.

Now i Loved Devon but disliked Giselle after what she did to Elena and the excuses and guilt brought up in this book were just pathetic.

She came across as such a sweet likable character that wont take any shit.... yet she did what she did it was so inconsistent with her character.

that's took the book down alot for me....

What i loved

Devoured this book in a single day aka started this morning and finished a few hours ago. Need I say more?! Not My Romeo was one of my absolute favorite books last year. It had everything that I love in a good romance. I re read my favorite parts last night to prep for this one and I was swooning the entire time. I was really looking forward to this book because I absolutely loved Devon in the first one. This book more than exceeded my expectations. I almost liked Giselle and Devon more than Elena and Jack! Almost ;) I just love a good slow burn and this one is deliciously slow. It's funny that Giselle is into physics, because their chemistry together is absolutely insane (see what I did there lol)! I just loved their banter together. Both of them have their own set of baggage that they're dealing with. It felt very real without being too heavy. I liked how the conflict with her sister was addressed again. I also loved all of the side characters just as much as I did in the last book. I will die if we don't get a book about Alabama, Topher, Quinn, everyone! Overall, words can't even describe how much I loved this book. While book 1 is definitely #1 in my heart, 2nd isn't half bad either. I love these characters, I love the football aspect, I love the quirkiness of the Daisy girls, I love the backstories, I love the flirtations... The list could go on forever. I don't know what book is next, but I know I'll definitely be reading it.

I wasn't feeling this. At all.
It felt rushed and over the top. Super cheesy. Quite annoying sometimes.
I like Devon, he seems nice, his story was interesting. His fears pretty valid.
But Giselle... Oh, boy. What a dubious character. I don't like anything about her. She's just all over the place. It's like the author couldn't decide while building her personality and life so she threw everything in there.
Nah, this felt way off.
