took long to finish but introduced concepts in a good and interesting way

Don’t let the fun graphics and pop culture references fool you: this very much reads like a textbook. It’s very confusing in parts and it’s dense to get through. It also is less of a history of the queer community and more of a history of queer theory (which is sort of like a philosophical theory). Since this reads like a textbook and I had to read it for school, I’m not leaving a rating, but before you pick up this book, remember that this isn’t an easy to understand queer history book and it definitely isn’t for everyone.

Decent introduction to queer history but might have less new info to offer former readers on sexuality, gender, and feminism. There are plenty of great reading suggestions inside, which is nice. A few critiques- I found a few instance of odd wording/ grammar or punctuation errors though they didn’t bother me much. Also, the drawings or graphic element of the book was much more minimal than I expected and not at all like a graphic novel of a textbook, which is what I was hoping for.

Based on the title, I was a little surprised to see that the focus was going to be on an academic discipline. I did find the book to be an interesting primer/entry into understanding the roots, basic tenets, and definitions of Queer Theory as an academic discipline, though.
