Incredibly accessible resource on academic approaches to queer theory. As someone whose undergraduate education was much more practice than deep theory, I was pleased that I could understand most of the lingo and concepts. The narrative went far beyond the usual jargon-filled academic circle jerk to examine lived experiences, as demonstrated by an entire section on the problems with the various theoretical approaches. The art isn't stunning, and seems repetitive (I swear I saw the image in different sections of the book). But for someone wanting an intro to the scholarly field of queer studies, this work is quite useful.

I thought this was a really great primer that I could see being prescribed for sixth-form leavers to get them ready for critical thinking. It takes very complex concepts and breaks them down into their simplest forms without being overly reductive, and presents as balanced an image as possible by frequently exploring potential responses. Great queer philosophy for the initiated and uninitiated alike!

"Think more queerly in your everyday life."
---

"Queer: A Graphic History" does a great job of introducing a very dense, complex, and sometimes incomprehensible subject in an accessible way. Even if it feels a little academic at times.
The illustrations really helped the reading experience. The art style the author chose it's bold and clear, making a good complement to the text.
In general, I liked how this book touched on a lot of tricky concepts and explained them in a concise way. Of course, it focuses on the "THEORY" of the queerness than on "HISTORY" so the title feels a little misguided.
"Queer: A Graphic History" helps us to think more queerly in our everyday life, and gives us tools to start thinking outside the binary.
Overall this is a fantastic intro to the queer theory that feels like a crash course but it's totally worth it.

This graphic novel is very information heavy. It does feel like a textbook with nice illustrations dispersed throughout. It has decades worth of sexology, queer theory, feminist theory & more in 175 pages. Because of this it can often feel heavy & overwhelming. This is a lot of info to take in & I know it will take more time & delving into to fully understand the complexities of the topic at hand. If you’re interested I wouldn’t discourage you from picking this up but I think if you have previous understanding & knowledge of the topic you will enjoy this book more. It’s better as a review than a beginner’s introduction to the topic imo. It was interesting to see it touch on the idea of doing queerness rather than being queer, so “how is something queer versus is this queer or not”. Also talks about avoiding binaries, the erasure of bisexuality & how queer theory rarely engages with it. The same lack of info was true for Trans communities. It touches a tad on the experience of bi, trans, fat phobia & disabled individuals & how sex/gender is talked/studied in regards to them. I also appreciated the end having some further resources (text & online) to further educate yourself. Interesting overall but just an okay read
