I really liked this book. Being based on the tragic story of Romeo and Juliet I was worried to fall in love with the characters because of their likely end. But I couldn’t help it. The struggles of real life and the situations the two are put in are captivating and telling. Penelope Freed handled the difficult situations of mental health, family dynamics, and coming of age impeccably. I would recommend this to both YA and adult readers. I can’t wait for the next one in the series.

This book is a contemporary retelling of Romeo and Julliet. Iti s dula point of view and we see how they struggle to be together even though their parents hate each other. The story kept you guessing how things were going to play out. The themes were very done specifically mental health and standing up for what you want. It definitely was an emotional book, there were some chapters that just broke me. These characters were amazing, you cannot help but relate to them. Although the main characters were great, the supporting characters added a lot. I recommend you give this retelling a try. I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
