I did not enjoy this book. This has to be one of the saddest stories I've ever read, and it will be a long time before the images and emotions this book stirred in me to recede.

This is a supremely important and well written book.

Based on the life experiences of the author, this fiction documents the decline and extinction of not just an animal, the Mongolian Grasslands wolf, but also the decline and extinction a place, a way of life, and a people.

Be warned-there is so so much animal violence, torture, death, and 'processing' (skinning/butchering) in this book. If you struggle with violence or death involving animals in your reading, do not read this book.
