Diana Clarke does a phenomenal job painting an accurate image of anorexia and how it feels to live with an eating disorder. Unfortunately, the book began to drag about halfway through. There were many instances where the narrator (Rose) repeated herself. There was also too much time spent on particular issues throughout. I feel it would have worked better if less time was given to her time in the facility. I appreciated how backstory was interweaved with the present but felt the story was lacking in character development. For the most part, it seemed that neither Rose nor Lily changed much throughout the novel. Sure, recovery was involved, but that isn't enough to make me truly care for either of them. The main plot was interesting but the execution didn't really work.

4.5! I love how true to life this book was. Dark and unflinchingly realistic about the nature of eating disorders, which often get romanticized in media. This book explored many dark themes and while it was difficult to read at times, I really enjoyed it!
4.5
I loved this. The writing is really phenomenal. This is a tough book though, it would be triggering as hell for someone with ED. On that note though I really appreciated that this book doesn’t glamorize eating disorders. Such a strong debut, the characters are exceptionally flawed and it’s not an enjoyable read but it’s such an impressive undertaking of a book.

Taking away 1.5 stars because 1. I spent two hours on this when I should have been studying for chem which means I'm sleeping late tonight 2. Mim got weird and the ending was unrealistic + would have preferred more development between Lily and Rose + Lily and Rose's relationship seems unrealistic and the author has obviously never met twins before + that weird eating out MC while she's on her period scene
3.5 stars for Kat + First 2/3rds of book + Jrame and Eope + Comparisons to animals and statues

Wow, this was a whirlwind! Twins Rose and Lily have been compared their whole lives. Both have self-destructive behaviors that lead them into very dark places. As a person who struggled with anorexia, I definitely found this book to be accurate in the feelings that Rose has throughout her recovery process. What I found even more accurate is how desperately she wants to save Lily from the horrors of her own life when she cannot even save herself. The only reason this isn't a five star for me was the pacing. I thought some parts in the beginning dragged and then in the end there were some huge moments that didn't get enough attention. Overall the book was witty, dark, and beautiful.
