Wow, this was a whirlwind! Twins Rose and Lily have been compared their whole lives. Both have self-destructive behaviors that lead them into very dark places. As a person who struggled with anorexia, I definitely found this book to be accurate in the feelings that Rose has throughout her recovery process. What I found even more accurate is how desperately she wants to save Lily from the horrors of her own life when she cannot even save herself. The only reason this isn't a five star for me was the pacing. I thought some parts in the beginning dragged and then in the end there were some huge moments that didn't get enough attention. Overall the book was witty, dark, and beautiful.

“I used to think anorexia was a dinosaur...”

I have been procrastinating writing this review and not for the usual reasons, simply because I genuinely don’t know how to put this book into words. Ironic, I’m aware.
I picked up thin girls expecting, not a lot, it had a goodreads rating that was hit and miss, which is always intriguing as well as terrifying. I expected to love or hate it— it’s safe to say it wasn’t the latter.
Reading that this was a debut was infuriatingly shocking, and finding out that it had almost no hype? Was disheartening. If beautiful books like these go unnoticed than what will happen to the art of reading? If I haven’t stated that our book recommendations are gentrified this is the time to do it: our recommendations are gentrified.
As someone who has struggled with an eating disorder for years I had to realize I have never ONCE read a book dedicated only to its complexities, and as a queer women, I didn’t realize the effects my sexuality has on such a societal aspect as my weight. This book will make you cry, it will make you believe in people, you’ll see your body in a different light because you sure as hell should.
Every single trigger warning applies for this book so stay safe and take breaks but I can not recommend this enough. All my love to Diana Clarke, I cannot wait for your next novel. Genuinely don’t think I could handle not having one.
Go pick this masterpiece of a book up and give the author some well deserved love.
As always, happy reading

I enjoyed this book more & more as I kept reading. I found the constant push and pull of Lily and Rose's relationship really honest and realistic. I also thought it was so interesting that they could taste each other's emotions…like Rose tasting the "lemony lie" on Lily's lips. Fantastic writing and such cool uses of literary devices.
The sisters are so real and multidimensional. Rose wrestles with anorexia, her sexuality, her relationship with Lily. And Lily experiences domestic violence, struggles with bingeing and restricting. I also really appreciated their mentions of orthorexia and pica, disorders that don't get talked about very often but are also debilitating.

This book will stick with me forever.
“I don’t think there’s one girl left in the world who isn’t fucked up about food. How are we meant to be normal about eating when we’re taught to count calories before we learn long division? None of it is normal.”
“Sometimes it’s okay to be uncomfortable. Sometimes it reminds you how to be human.”

A story about two twin sisters, Rose and Lily who face a heartbreaking childhood and young adulthood. The novel focuses on the bond between the sisters but the central story is Rose’s anorexia and Lily’s domestic abuse. This book is extremely raw and incredibly hard to read. If you have suffered from an eating disorder (or domestic abuse or self harm) or are currently going through one I would advise extreme caution in reading this book as it discusses anorexia in full detail. The depth and honesty in this story about the sisters struggles is what makes this a five star read for me. This is truly what I would consider a literary masterpiece and if you are in the headspace for something with this much raw emotion I would highly recommend it. However I do personally think that this book needs to be marketed very different, the majority of this story is focused on the graphic details involving Rose’s anorexia and how it affects her physical and mental well being as well as those around her. The detail is EXTREME. While I, as someone who has suffered from an eating disorder can look at this and understand why it is there to strengthen the narrative I also believe this book COULD be used as a “ anorexia how to guide” so again proceed with caution and recommend this with CAUTION. However this is literally a bloody masterpiece so kudos to Clarke for that.
