It was cute but oh my word. I forget how cringy 14 year olds can be. And awkward. Mia is definitely learning a lot throughout the story. It definitely brought me back to my early high school/late middle school days. And just a reminder for me that these books are not like the movies. Even though I did love that this book referenced the movie starring Anne Hathaway in it. Golden moment.

Mia really annoys me in this book. I expected her to mature a bit, 'cause duh, it's already the fourth book, get yourself together, girl! Hopefully friends like Lily or Mike will eventually help her develop. They better do, because I'm tired of Mia's constant whining and mood swings.

finished this sitting in my car before the book club meeting about it lol

Mia was pretty annoying in this book, considering she spent half of it complaining that Michael would break up with her even though she had no evidence that he would. On to book five!

Pretty much could be summed up into fifty pages..but whatever.

Why are teenage girls so boy crazy, it's driving me crazy.

I like Meg Cabot's books. I really do. But I think her most popular series, The Princess Diaries, are the most annoying ones.
I used to like the few books in the series that I read in seventh and eighth grade and they even gave me the motivation to write in my own diary the same way Mia does in hers. I loved the movies as a kid. And now after reading more than half of Meg Cabot's books, I decided to revisit The Princess Diaries. This is therefore, a review of the first 4 books.

I now realise that Mia is the worst of Meg Cabot's leading ladies. She is stupid, she is whiney, she lies all the time and she can't seem to appreciate all that she has. I know that she is 14. But I was 14 once and I distinctly remember neither I, nor any of the girls I knew were like her.

She is annoying and lies all the time because she has confrontational issues. Is that supposed to be relatable? Maybe to some kids. I, sadly, haven't met any of them. And is she supposed to be someone who people look up to? I hope not. She should not be idealised. Because at point in the books I see her growing and learning. She misunderstands a situation, has no guts to speak up and clear things and ends up whining in her diary which WE readers end up reading.
