I really do think these books get better with each installment as the reader really gets to know and love all things Anne. Book three deals with Anne's formative years in college and I loved that timeless look at adjusting to college life and then readjusting to home life during vacations, etc. and learning to sort of combine those two lives in a comfortable way. This is also a book all about the Love Story - so a perfect match for anyone like me who has a tendency to scan each page for a certain guy's name. You will not be disappointed.

A childhood classic that I listened to on audiobook. Anne of the Island used to be my favorite book in the series as a kind, but after this listen it's changed! I still adore the romance but the folly of Anne's decisions in the book was annoying.

I never read past Anne of Green Gables as a child and that might have been a good thing. In the second book, Anne is still largely the character we remember from the first, but growing. In this third book, however, she is just a shadow of herself. She’s still in each vignette, but so subdued.  When Ruby dies, it barely seems to register to her. When she is caught up in a romance, there is no depth of feeling there, no waxing poetic, no oomph.  Perhaps that is the point in that instance, but even when she comes to terms with her feelings for Gilbert, it’s underwhelming.  It feels a little like L. M. Montgomery poured everything she had into Anne in the first two installments and had nothing left to give for this book. I hope that changes in the next book.  I still mostly liked the book, but, given how good the first two books were, it was a let down.

Oh how I loved this book! All the romance and whimsy of it was fantastic.

I've grown up watching the Anne of Green Gables movies by Sullivan - and (unpopular opinion) they just weren't my favorite. But after reading the book, I'm so pleasantly surprised! There were so many delicious details and characters left out from the movie! WHY!? Phil and Aunt Jamesina were so neat, Ruby Gillis dies from consumption, and Anne is actually on good terms with Gilbert! The only friction between them is that she wants to continue being chums while he wants something deeper.

Can't wait to read the rest in the series!
