This book has more violent injury and gore than most grimdark fantasy I’ve read

Whew. It was definitely a struggle to get through this and stay awake. The writing was really good, but the story was just okay. I feel like the abuse she experienced was more the prominent story than her educational journey.

More like 3.5. A rise from the ashes type of a story that seems to pander to certain stereotypes but has an important theme of the damage emotional and physical abuse can do to a person.

It's so difficult to put in my own words all the feelings I experienced while reading this stunning and heartbreaking memoir. Dr. Westover delivers a vivid retelling of her childhood and experience through higher education. I find this a compelling stance on how education can transform a life from family estrangement and misdirection.

Tara in my opinion is a gem. Her going through all the hardships one could ever be subjected to and finally make it to fulfill her heart's desire is something to admire. I loved her for who she was throughout the entire book. She gave me a different perspective into seeing life for what it is. Bravo Tara. Loved this one.
