This book was beautiful and devastating. The writing is lush and gorgeous. I felt as if I was there through every part of the book. I truly felt for the characters, wanting the best for them. And let me tell you, I sobbed (hence the “devastating”). This book takes such a modern and inclusive spin as it retells the Iliad. Loved the LGBTQ+ representation. I would recommend this book to anyone.

I just got finished reading this book and it has left me speechless. The story itself was interesting, but in combination with the fleshed-out characters whom one empathised with an unforgettable reading experience emerged. I want to be honest, at first I didn’t quite know what to expect and when I impulsively bought the book I only noticed in hindsight the “sexy, dangerous, mystical” commentary on the cover which invoked the fear that I had accidentally bought an erotica novel of some sorts. I am glad that this was not the case. Anyhow, easily one of the best pieces of literature I have laid my hands on for quite a while. There are also few other works which nearly brought me to tears, the emotional rollercoaster was definitely unexpected as well.

A tale of loyal lifelong love. My high expectations were pretty much met.
Very mixed feelings on Achilles, but I loved Patroclus individually and watching his personhood develop into something so kind and deserving. That being said, all the blame fell lopsided onto Achilles and I think it would've been fun to explore Patroclus' flaws too.

the .5 i took out was mainly because achilles was really in my nerve towards the end and i hated how he would've listen to patroclus even though it is shown though it is shown earlier in the book that he would basically do anything for him. but overall amazing writing and a great story

Not the type of book I would usually go for, but in my opinion it truly deserves the hype. The story ist fascinating, suspenseful and heartbreaking. At first, it was hard for me to keep up with all of the names and kingdoms, but it was a great way to get introduced to Greek mythology.

3.75
