their hands meet, and light spills in a flood like a hundred golden urns pouring out of the sun

follows the bond between achilles and patroclus over 18 years, over childhood and training and war and everything in between. just such a beautiful, gripping, and tragic Greek love story

I know this is an unpopular opinion, but this book just didn’t thrill me. The book itself was good, but I couldn’t appreciate it enough since I’m not very familiar with Greek mythology. I did love Patroclus and Achilles though and their love story was heart-breaking and sweet.

This was a beautiful read. I loved the illustration of the love Patroclus and Achilles shared. I did not expect to cry at the end but I can say that everything wrapped up pretty well.

I really don’t have much to say about this book other than it was ok...
There was nothing about it that I severely disliked and there was nothing about it I loved.
It was forgettable....and that makes it worse than a book that sparks extreme dislike.
The plot is fine, but it’s drawn out. If you like reading stories about mythology with a twist you also might think it’s ok.
But that’s all it’ll ever be. Just ok.

Pretty good. It was pretty chilled out but also really sad. Even though I'd class it as "adventurous" because there's technically adventure, don't expect more than a bit of travelling and some-a decent bit of fighting (though still not loads), it's mostly quite relaxed. The main relationship was enjoyable imo but I found it difficult to keep track of characters and the glossary was only at the end (and just scanning the glossary will show you just how MANY characters they were). It's only about 300 pages long and is very fast-paced. I understand that Greek Mythology is quite person-heavy so I would rather the page count have been higher than the character count been lower, the shorter page limit really did not help this.

Given that it's based on Greek Mythology, it will obviously have older words and phrases, but if that sort of writing bothers you then I wouldn't recommend. At times I just found myself thinking "please stop this sounds so pretentious".

I don't consider this a spoiler since I don't want anyone to go into it with the wrong idea but I'll spoiler it for those few people who'll hate me if I don't, this isn't a happy book which is something I found a shock after the things I'd heard about it so don't go into it thinking it's a sweet queer historical romance. At first I knew it wouldn't be since I know Greek Mythology tends to be like that, then I heard reviews of it and my expectations were changed to think it was a happier book but, just to be clear: this isn't a happy story!
