I love this series, and each book is a wonderful adventure. However they are heartbreaking and so poignant that you just have to keep reading in hope things will get better. Gregor grabs your heart and doesn't let it go he makes you believe in him and the good in people and others you wouldn't think have it. You root for him and the others in the Underland as well as hope for so many good things for the ones who keep losing everything.

Collins has produced another solid book about Gregor, his friends down in the Underland, and his family. The adventure this time opens up more about his family and introduces more Underland characters. And Gregor is growing up: literally, by having his twelfth birthday, and figuratively by taking on more responsibility, having much more at stake, and seeing more of his comrades-in-arms die fighting.

I am thrilled that there are two more of these books, and I'll be listening to them as soon as I can.

This one was quite a step up from the 2nd book! Suzanne has such an incredible gift at taking such big topics and laying them out in a way that’s digestible for a younger audience. Not gonna lie I cried twice reading this one 😭

A very good middle of the series, focusing heavily on the ethics of war. The characters are what truly carry this, though the jungle brings out some more opportunities for gruesome worldbuilding.
