I really thought I was gonna love this book based on the synopsis, but the execution was terrible. I think I'm not a fan of Paul Tremblay's writing since I DNFed two of his books and gave another 2 stars. The way he writes doesn't pull me in, if anything, it's very dull. The characters were also bad. There was no character development for how slow this book was. I kept waiting for something to happen, but nothing ever did. I was so bored. There was also a screenplay element, that had worked for some books, but for this one, it pulled me out of the story and confused me. This book was too slow for a book under 300 pages. I only finished it because I listened to the audiobook and it was short and I listened to it on 2.75 speed. If I were reading the physical book, I would have DNFed. I only picked it up because I love cursed/lost films concepts, but this is gonna be my last Paul Tremblay book. He is not the author for me.

The narration? Superb! 5/5 stars
The story… not so much. 3.5/5
If I had read this, my rating would probably be lower. The audiobook really saved it.

I really liked this right up until the ending, which I think I hated. I JUST finished it, and maybe I need to ruminate on it a bit to know.

If this were a real movie I would be so annoyingly obsessed with it its not even funny. in addition the couching of the narrative is inventive and fun. great book!

very tense story, but the ending was more murky that I liked it. used a lot of meta tropes which were interesting, the characters all unlikeable and the loneliness radiated off the page. the two twist's at the end shocked me and stuck with me, even as the plot builds to it the entire novel
