When picking up The Dragon Republic, I was expecting a filler novel like so many other fantasy trilogies. I’m so happy to say that I was wrong. Kuang skillfully explores civilization after war, as well as the evils that come with colonization and a corrupt leader. Nezha’s character development was also extremely strong. I would highly recommend, and I cannot wait to finish out the series.

While not concluding on an act of MASS GENOCIDE like The Poppy War does, this is still an upsetting and pretty violent read for most of it. Dealing with addiction, trauma and how ugly war really is. I'd recommend it but not for some people.

I will finish this series because there is only one book left. I really don't like Rin but I like Kitay so I'm crossing my fingers. I hope it's not a repetition of the first and 2nd books. Because that's all this book was, a repetition of the first. Same mistake, same way of thinking, her saying she learn and change when she didn't...

I hope there is redemption for Rin because I really don't like her. She never learns even if she says she does. She makes the same mistakes again, again, again. She doesn't care for anybody except 1 maybe 2 people. She ignores people and then cries when they die?? Why? You never care or ask about them because they were a burden for you! That's all you said.

An excellent sequel to the Poppy War. I loved to watch the characters become more complex and see more of the politics of the world evolve
