I got to chapter 11, and there was a graphic rape scene a couple pages in. No trigger warnings for the book, which pissed me off greatly. I can't handle those scenes very well, so I was really aggravated after I calmed down a little. As someone who is a highly sensitive person (HSP), and that being one of my triggers, it would have been nice to have a trigger warning at the beginning of the book, but there were none, which would have saved me the hassle of even reading it because I see everything that I read so vividly, and I couldn't get that scene out of my head for a few days at most.

If you love stories like Tom Clancy's Books, you will love this book.

This story is written by Nick Irving ( The Reaper ), one of America's best snipers and co-written by former Brigadier General A. J. Tata. This story is loosely based on Nicholas Irving as the main character. Vic Harwood is an elite sniper taking down a target when all goes wrong. Unfortunately, the Chechen gets the best of him when he misses his shot and captures his scout. His call sign is The Reaper due to the headcount he had during the first 3 months overseas. He spends the next bit of time recovering from the wounds he received till he joins to train other snipers. While teaching the snipers, he falls in love with an Olympic gold medalist, and she is a shooter as well. He also happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time on base, so the mystery and intrigue ensue. This book is filled with military jargon that you may need to lookup.

Okay, so this book is a little confusing. Multiple points of view jump from one chapter to the next. Sometimes we follow the reaper, sometimes we are flowing a government contractor and sometimes the Chechen, but all of it is connected somehow. These books get all sorts of twisted. I love that my original guesses about the who and what and why we're so incorrect.

This book was an exciting read. I loved the questions and actions that preceded thru the pages. They kept me on the edge of my seat. This book was an exciting thriller with lots of action, suspenseful plotlines, and destructive behavior.

Farfetched, but aren't they all? Left a bit of an opening for a second book. Good action scenes, dialogue about average for a yarn like this, likewise the plot. Good enough for light entertainment.

I'm not sure what I liked about this one, it is well written and there is action in it and the story is good but I'm not so sure about all the characters. On the other hand it gave me some entertaining for a couple of hours and I will read the second book to be sure.

Nicholas Irving, the author, is a former Army Ranger Special Operations sniper known as The Reaper for bagging 33 targets in 90 days in Afghanistan. He's written two nonfiction books about his experiences. I have one, Reaper. Little did I know, he was penning a military thriller series, too!  Reaper: Ghost Target is book one.

Special Operations sniper Vick Harwood is almost killed while on a mission in Afghanistan. His spotter, "Sammy" Samuelson, goes missing and is presumed dead in the same attack.

Months later, Vick is mostly recovered, but he suffers blackouts and lost time due to a TBI. Around this same time, a U.S. Army general is assassinated in his own home...with Vick Harwood's sniper rifle, Lindsay. He can't account for the time the assassination occurs! Is he killing his former commanders? Is his missing spotter responsible?

Add a Chechyn terrorist, French CIA, and an epic subplot involving drugs and kidnapped women, and you have this explosive premiere novel!

As a debut, it's a little rough. The writing style is simplistic, which is super common. I see it in my own writing. Authors find their groove at mid-point, so too with Irving. The plot feels busy in places, but all of it proves necessary. And kudos to Irving for eschewing my expectations. I thought I had the mystery figured out early, but I was wrong! The ending had me open-mouthed in awe. A great read.

Excellent book! Very well written, well-developed characters and a delightfully complex plot.

Reaper: Ghost Target by Nicholas Irving and A.J.Tata is my first sniper fiction. This is a face paced political-military thriller with a good lead and gripping story. Vick "The Reaper" Harwood is based on the author himself. I read an online interview and found out the "Chechen" is real. The story reminds me a bit of the movie "Shooter" (novel by Stephen Hunter [b:Point of Impact|127712|Point of Impact (Bob Lee Swagger, #1)|Stephen Hunter|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1315656617l/127712._SY75_.jpg|3870], which I haven't yet read). I'll be reading book #2!

I'll be the first to admit that I'm biased since both authors are Army veterans. Lots of action and lots of gun talk make it an instant fave for me. In my opinion, Nick and Tony did a fine job on this one and I can't wait to continue the series and for Drone Strike to come out.
